Hi Ed and Tom Thanks for sending me the information about the Sixth Floor Museum expansion, and the Oakes' difficulties. I have posted those on the News at JFK Place. As to the Expansion: when I attended the dedication of the Plaza when it was made an historical place, there were comments made by the speakers that the Plaza would for- ever stay as it is; that the surrounding property owners had donated the land (etc) so that the Plaza would be a type of unchanging monument, and folks could visit and study the events of 11-22-63, without there being any more changes to land and buildings, etc. Therefore, it would seem to me that if Oakes/Groden/all can't sell their ideas and research on the grounds, that the Sixth Floor can't promote their ideas either. I don't think the Federal Law would allow that. Further: if the Sixth Floor is "expanding" (whatever that might entail), that is something that can't go beyond their own sphere as of the date of the dedication. They would have to keep their commercial business inside their own property (which is limited by the Federal law?). My recollection is the the Sixth Floor Museum was a private venture started for commerical purposes. If or because they may have changed their business plan doesn't mean they are now allowed to be something they weren't on the dedica- tion date, if it involves the law according to the dedication of Dealey Plaza. I agree that the Plaza shouldn't be commercialized to an unsightly extent, but if the Sixth Floor is going to market ON the Plaza, they'd best set up a table for Oakes/Groden/ et al, right beside them, because what is fair for one on Federal property is fair for all. Wouldn't you think? Anyhow, the above is my opinion and an idea of a way to hinder The Expansion. Thanks for sending me the information and best regards to you both.
