Tom Bowden, manager of the Conspiracy Museum offered to match my hundred. We agreed to meet today in Dealey plaza at 4:00 PM to see if there were any takers. Several people gathered around the open manholes to see what we were doing. After I spread the word through a few of the people in the plaza, that someone could pick up two hundred dollars by crawling through the pipe. People started taking a look to consider it. First, one guy who had been interested climbed down into the storm drain. He immediately climbed back out and declared that no one could crawl through the pipe. I appreciated him at least taking a look to see if he might want to try it so I had my picture taken with him. I wanted my picture taken with him so I could show it to the storm drain buffs and say, "See, this guy right here was gonna try and decided it could not be done!" While I was standing there getting my picture made with the guy, two more people walked up. One of them named George W. He stated that someone about his size should be able to make it through the pipe. He was a thin fellow, 5 foot 7 inches tall, 120 lb., 22 yr. old. He had no fear of being confined in a sixteen inch pipe which I thought was kind of unbelievable. George got down in the storm drain on the north side of Elm street and slid head first down the pipe leading under Elm street to the storm drain outlet on the south side. He began inching his way along the pipe. I went over to the north side storm drain and kept a vigil talking to him and making sure he was all right. He calmly replied each time I would ask him how he was doing. He reported his progress saying how far away from the south side storm drain he was. He could see the light entering the south side storm drain where I was. Everything was going fine and I was convinced that I was going to have to give the guy a hundred bucks. Then all of sudden he said he could not go any further because of a five inch high build up of mud. He was about three quarters of the way across Elm street at that point. My first thought was "Oh no, now we're going to have to get the fire dept. to dig up Elm street to get him out." Images of baby Jessica flashed through my mind. But he was able to inch his way backwards , until he got back to the north side Elm street storm drain opening. The fact is, someone possibly could have crawled through the storm drain pipe as an escape route. I reiterate that from inside the storm drain, no one could see the President at Z-313. Thanks to Tom Bowden and the Conspiracy Museum for making a real effort to test a portion of a prevalent theory. (214) 741-3040 Thanks also to George W. for his cool competent and daring role. The story and George's picture will be on display in the museum. If you would like to contact George and ask him about his experience directly, he would be glad to correspond with you by e-mail. georgew@austin1.com Greg Jaynes ------------------------------ end ------------------------------------
