- Before Summit County was formed in 1840 Tallmadge Township belonged to several other counties. The date of 1800 has been used as a reference point since it is close to the 1803 date when Ohio became a state.
1800 - 1808: The area of Tallmadge Twp was in Trumbull County.
(Trumbull County was established in 1800.)1808 - 1812: The area of Tallmadge Twp was in Portage County.
(Portage County was established in 1808.)1840 - Present: The area of Tallmadge Twp is in Summit County.
(Summit County was formed in 1840.)

Earliest gravestone dated 1819, no burial records are known to exist. Located near 815 E Tallmadge Ave, Akron. On a slope east of Cardinal Plastics, Inc.NEW SUMMIT COUNTY HOME (INFIRMARY) CEMETERY:
Located on the east side of Darrow Rd (Rt 91) between Northmoreland Ave and South River Rd. The County Home, or Infirmary, opened in 1921, was closed in 1970, and demolished in 1980. (The Summit Nursing Home is now on this site.) There is a cemetery on site for persons who died at the County Home between 1916-1948 but there are no gravestones. Burials were published in the Chapter book: "SummitCounty Ohio Infirmary Burial & Miscellaneous Records 1916-1952" An older cemetery, located closer to Howe Rd and Weaver School, was filled and fenced in by the Summit County Agricultural Society.OLD SUMMIT COUNTY HOME (INFIRMARY) CEMETERY:
The old Summit County Home, or Infirmary, was located on W Exchange St at Storer Ave in west Akron until 1916. It was sold and the money used to build the New County Home in Tallmadge Township. There are reports that a cemetery was on the property and the bodies were moved to the new location.EAST AKRON CEMETERY: a.k.a. Middlebury Cemetery
Established in 1853 to replace Middlebury Cemetery on Newton St. Located at 1135 E Market St, Akron OH 44305. Opposite the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company clock tower between Willard and German Alley. Burial records at the cemetery are on computer.MIDDLEBURY CEMETERY: a.k.a. NEWTON CEMETERY
Earliest gravestone dated 1808. Located off E Market St on the north side of Newton St at Mack St. (This area of Tallmadge Twp was incorporated into the city of Akron.)TALLMADGE CEMETERY - NEW
Located on the west side of South Ave (Rt 91) south of Tallmadge Circle. This cemetery is on the south side of the railroad tracks which separates this cemetery from the old cemetery. Cemetery records are at the Township Hall; 46 North Ave; Tallmadge OH 44278.TALLMADGE CEMETERY - OLD
