Richfield Township is:
 

• Part of the Connecticut Western Reserve.in Township 4N,  Range 12W
• Bounded by:

  Cuyahoga County on the north
  Boston Twp on the east
  Bath Twp on the south
  Medina County on the west

Before Summit County was formed in 1840 Richfield Township belonged to several other counties. The date of 1800 has been used as a reference point since it is close to the 1803 date when Ohio became a state.

1800 to 1808: The area of Richfield Twp was in Trumbull County.
              (Trumbull County was established in 1800)

1808 to 1812: The area of Richfield Twp was in Portage County.
              (Portage County was established in 1808.)

1812 to 1840: The area of Richfield Twp was in Medina County.
              (Medina County was established in 1818.)

1840 to Present: The area of Richfield Twp is in Summit County.
              (Summit County was formed in 1840.)

Richfield Township Cemeteries

The following information is being provided to give you an idea of the location, or approximate location, of all known township cemeteries. It will also help identify any cemeteries where the gravestones or burial records have been copied and, if known, where this information can be found.

COLUMBIA ROAD CEMETERY:
a.k.a. SMITH CEMETERY  DEWEY CEMETERY
Located on Columbia Rd east of Dewey Rd in east Richfield. See the Chapter newsletter "The Highpoint", Jul 1990, pg 52.

FAIRVIEW CEMETERY: a.k.a. EAST RICHFIELD CEMETERY
Located at 3990 Brecksville Rd in Richfield. North of Streestboro Rd (Rt 303) on the west side of Brecksville Rd between Waitley Dr and Hawthorne Dr.

HART CEMETERY:
May have been called COMMUNITY CEMETERY  Destroyed. Was on Hart Rd off of Cleveland-Massillon Rd (old Rt 21) near the Serbian Home.

HERSHEY CEMETERY:   a.k.a. REVERE ROAD CEMETERY
Located on the east side of Revere Rd just north of Everett Rd, across from Hillcrest School.

NEWTON CEMETERY:
Destroyed. Was on Brecksville Rd (old Rt 21) south of Streetsboro Rd (Rt 303) approximately 500 feet west of the road. Supposedly was moved to Fairview Cemetery in Richfield.

OSBORN CORNERS CEMETERY:
Located on the north side of Everett Rd between Hametown Rd and Medina Line Rd. In the southwest corner of the township.

WEST RICHFIELD CEMETERY:
Located on the east side of Broadview Rd northwest of Streestboro Rd (Rt 303) in Richfield.

WHEATLEY CEMETERY:
Located on a hillside on the south side of Wheatley Rd just east of Brecksville Rd (old Rt 21)
