Minutes of Summit County Chapter OGS Chapter General Meeting

January 19, 2008

The January 19, 2008, meeting of the Summit County Chapter OGS was called to order at 1:00 pm by President Donna Wurm at the Main Branch the Akron-Summit County Public Library 60 S. High St, Akron, Ohio.

President :Donna Wurm welcomed everyone and reported correspondence received from the OGS Board of Trustees and E. Paul Morehouse, OGS president acknowledging donations by the Chapter of $500.00 for the OGS Library Building Fund and a copy of Perrin's CD to the OGS library. A thank you note was received from Ventura County Genealogical Society in Camarillo, CA for a donation of a Perrin's CD from Millard Thompson, first president of the Summit County Chapter OGS.

Recording Secretary: Minutes of the October 20, 2007 meeting were printed and distributed. The minutes were approved as printed.

President Donna Wurm President Donna Wurm introduced Paul Morehouse, President of OGS and member of Summit County OGS. Paul commended Lois Noirot on her work as editor of The Highpoint newsletter. Paul reported on the many upcoming activities of OGS including the OGS Annual Conference in Cincinnati on April 17-19, 2008. Paul said OGS is the largest State Genealogical Society in the nation 93 or 94 chapters. Paul encouraged all members and guests to join OGS.

Treasurer: Carolyn Mackey reported total assets on October 31, 2007 were $6,318.93. Combined income in November and December was $1,879.78 and combined disbursements was $1,917.83; leaving an ending balance of total assets on December 31, 2007 of $6,280.88. Carolyn also provided a 2007 Annual Treasurer's Report and a 2006/2007 Comparison Report. All reports are filed with these minutes and for audit. John Cernay has agreed to audit the 2007 financial records of the chapter.

Vice President: Kelly Holderbaum     Kelly Holderbaum announced program plans through July 2008. She alerted members to a change of day and time for the April meeting and changes of locations for the April, May and July meetings. Exact dates, times and locations will be published in The Highpoint, the Electronic Report and future Chapter meetings.

Corresponding Secretary: Howland Davis reported 62 single, 4 double, 1 triple and 1 quadruple responses, 77 queries and 10 written letters processed in 2007.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality Chair:Marge Gorbach reported 30 members and 3 guest present at the meeting.

Cemeteries Chair: Judy Davis updated the Chapter with progress of the cemeteries committee. February 4, 2008 is the deadline for submitting names of Veterans. She still needs volunteers for typing agenda and reading of cemeteries.

Electronic Report: Howland Davis-none

Five Generation Chair: Jim Mackey encouraged members and guests to submit their family five generation charts.

Historian: Laura Jaroszewski asked members to submit their autobiographies.

Membership Chair:Donna reported approximately 122 renewals and 8 new memberships have been received.

Newsletter Chair: Lois Noirot asked for volunteers to write a two-page article for future newsletters on each of the 5 remaining original townships in Summit County. The townships are: Franklin, Northfield, Richfield, Stow and Twinsburg. Anyone who can help, please contact Lois.

Publication Chair: Julie Wilson reported sales are good. Since September 2007, there have been sales of 20 books and 15 CDs of "Lest We Forget", 20 books and 3 CDs St. Vincent and 40 CDs of "Perrin's 1881 History of Summit County" reprinted with the indices by the Chapter in 1972.

Publicity Chair: Barb Holderbaum was introduced as the newest member of the Chapter Executive Board. Congratulations to Barb.

Website Chair: Gerry Huhn reported a total of 5,275 hits on our web site. That averages out to 527 per month. Gerry is also working on the Memorial Gift update, Cemeteries project and the Civil War and First Settlers update.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
 President Donna Wurm said three nominations have been sent to OGS for awards to be announced and given at the OGS Annual Conference in April 2008. She thanked Judy Davis for writing the nomination letter to OGS for the chapter publication "Lest We Forget", and Lois Noirot for another chapter publication "Perrin's 1881 History of Summit County" on CD reprinted in 1972 with indices. Donna wrote the nomination letter for The Highpoint newsletter.

NEW BUSINESS

Three motions approved by the Executive Board at the November 5, 2007 board meeting that requires ratification by Chapter members were presented.

  1. "The Summit County Chapter OGS shall form a new lineage society named the Civil War Families of Summit County, Ohio." Motion was approved and ratified.
  2. "The First Settlers and Civil War Families of Summit County, Ohio lineage societies will be combined into one Standing Committee and named the Summit County Lineage Societies Committee and appropriate changes will be made to the Standing Rules and Executive Board Manual." Motion was approved and ratified.
  3. . "Purchase 19 rolls of Medina County vital records on microfilm at a cost of $570.00". The microfilms are Marriage Records & Index and Birth Records & Index from 1867-1908. Some of Medina County at one time was part of Summit County. Motion was approved and ratified.
  4. A drawing for a Lest We Forget CD was won by Paul Morehouse. $16.00 was collected.

    The business meeting was adjourned at 2:15 p.m.

    PROGRAM
    Vice President Kelly Holderbaum conducted a "Genealogy Swap Meet" program. Guest at the meeting were introduced and invited to ask questions. Many interesting questions were asked and answered. Genealogical items were swapped at the end of the question period.
