Johnson Corners Cemetery
Norton Twp, Summit County, Ohio

Location: Near Waltz Park at the intersection of Wooster Road West and Gale Drive

Contact: City of Barberton

Status: Closed

Established: 1826

History:Despite providing a burial place for many early residents of the area, including at least one Civil War veteran of some note, this tiny cemetery was for years allowed to fend for itself against the forces of time and vandals. In 1995, it became a topic of great interest in both Norton and Barberton. The first community decided to ask that the cemetery be deeded to that community because an early settler of Norton, Abraham Van Hyning, was buried there. Elements in Barberton bristled at the idea of turning over the cemetery to their neighbor, and the battle ensued. Finally, Barberton was declared the rightful and responsible party when it came to the cemetery's ownership and maintaniance.
