Join us to swap anything related to genealogy! Bring magazines, books, maps, CD's, Newsletters, or anything else that you are no longer using and swap it with someone else for something that will help you with your family research.
Who knows what treasures will be swapped! We'll also have a Q & A session to swap ideas and questions.
We are introducing our newest addition to our Lineage Society Family. The objective of the society is to encourage descendants to prove their Summit County ancestor's Civil War service in time for the approaching Civil War sesquicentennial in four years (2011-2015). This proof will be recorded and filed locally for future generations as lasting tribute to the ancestors deeds.
After an explanation of the society's application, a workshop will be conducted in Special Collections to explore the Civil War sources available there and elsewhere.
Gerald Woodling, Julie Wilson and Kelly Holderbaum will join us to compare several popular genealogy computer programs, Family Tree Maker, Roots Magic, PAF, and Legacy, and the Master Genealogist. After the comparison we will break into small groups to actually view the different aspects of each program on several different laptops.
If you have a laptop with one of these programs bring it along to ask questions and learn more about the program.
Mr. Theodore J. Hornyak, Investigator for the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing. Mr. Hornyak will discuss how cemeteries in Ohio are regulated, things to be mindful of when visiting a cemetery, and cemetery consumer information. The presentation will be informative to not only for the consumer but also for the cemetery personel, local government agencies
responsible for cemeteries and historical societies. Join us at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, Akron at 7:00 p.m.
As we release our Veterans Honor Roll CD, this will be a meeting you will long remember, complete with military color guard, special guests from several military establishments, and an unusual military tribute. We will explain how this project originated , how it was completed with the hard work of our members and friends, and then demonstrate how to use this very special CD. Join us to help celebrate Armed Forces Day at the Acker Moore Memotial Hall, American Legion/VFW, 3733 Fishcreek Road, Stow, at 1:00 p.m.
Refreshments will be served.
Bring with you a young member of the family, a child, a grandchild, or even a teenager or 30 something!
