We'll have a Q & A session to swap ideas along with our genealogy swap meet. So bring those items that pertain to genealogy to swap. Old magazines, books, supplies,
charts or any thing genealogy related! Our Monthly drawing is a copy of RootsMagic 3.0 with an upgrade to 4.0! Join us at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
Haven't used newspaers for research? You don't know what you are missing! Obituraries are just the tip of the iceberg. Legal notices, dead letters, marriages, ads, birth announcements, visits and more!
Microfilm, digitized or on-line, they all have their merits. Find out what else is out there to add to your family history, you'll never know what gemsyou are missing if you don't try out those old newspapers.
Amanda Epperson, Ph.D. in history, has taught at the University of Akron, Western Carolina University and Baldwin Wallace College. Understanding immigration history can place your family in the context of
worldwide population movements. It can also provide pointers about where to turn next when a roadblock is encountered in family history research. Amanda will discuss the broad patterns of immigration to the United States
from 1607 until the present day and will also focus onmigration patterns in the United States, particularly Ohio.
Join us for a presentation on different types of maps; top, plat, historical, migration. Find out how they can be usefulin researching your ancestors. You'll find out what the area looked like and how your ancestors
might have moved from here to there! We'll take a trip up to Special Collections after the presentation to look at the different maps available and explore them hands on.
Flora L. VerStraten, President of the Jefferson County Chapter of the OGS, will be sharing with us her vast knowledge and interest about military research she has learned through researching her ancestors.
She will include extensive handouts, rich in listing sources from books, county and federal records to the wide internet sources available. She will also touch on some little known sources. There will be time for questions and
an interactive discussion. If you've had success in researching a veteran, please come prepared to share what worked for you!
This years cemetery meeting will allow us to put to good use the skills we have been practicing the last couple of years and-hopefully-complete an update of a cemetery at the same time.
