MEETING TIMES & PLACES - Meetings
are not just for members. Guests are welcome at any meeting. All you have
to do is show up. Meetings for 2010 are listed below and are usually the third Saturday of the
month at 1 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S.
High St., in downtown Akron. There
are no meetings in August, November and December. The annual banquet
is in November. Time and place of the banquet are announced after they are planned and will be listed below under "MEETING AND PROGRAM NOTES".
Membership runs from January 1 to December 31.

"SECOND STEPS IN GENEALOGY RESEARCH" 1:00 at the Akron-Summit County Library, 60 S. High St., Akron
Saturday February 19th: "PROBLEM SOLVING" 1:00 at the downtown Akron-Summit County Public Library.
Saturday, March 19th: "SEARCHING FOR THOSE ELUSIVE MAIDEN NAMES" 1:00 at the downtown Akron-Summit County Library.
Presented by Jan Gramlich fron the Special Collections Division of the Akron-Summit County Library.
Jan will talk on the "Second Steps in Genealogy Research". This meeting is for those who have started their research but need some help to get further in their research. Others are encouraged to attend to learn and to offer comments on their second steps.
All attending are asked, including guests, are asked to bring their problems to the meeting and the group will hopefully come up with suggestions on how to solve the problems.
The meeting will be followed by a genealogy swap. Bring items of a genealogy nature that you no longer need but can pass on to others. Magazines, books, journals, CDs, maps or supplies.
The speaker will be Derek Davey, a professional genealogist from Toledo and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. He received a BA from the University of Toledo in history. The knowledge learned fueled his continued interest in both military studies and genealogy.
Saturday, April 16th: "OGS Revolutionary War Tombstone Project" "NOTE CHANGE OF LOCATION 1:00 at the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library. 2015 3rd St C.F.O.
Terry Hart will be the speaker.This presentation will cover search techniques, problems, results and continuing efforts conducted as part of the state-wide OGS Revolutionary War Project.
While focused on Medina County, the covered methods and systems can apply to many Revolutionary War Patriot searches.
Saturday May 21th: "GOOSETOWN:Reconstructing an Akron Neighborhood"; 1:00 at the downtown Akron-Summit County Public Library.
Speaker Dr. Joyce Dyer, the author of "Goosetown" and another book "Gum Dipped" about Firestone Park. Dr. Dyer is a 1965 graduate of Garfield and John S. Kenyon Professor of English at Hiram College.
Saturday, June 18th: "RUTHERFORD B HAYES PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY" 1:00 RB Hayes Library, Speigle Grove, Fremont, Ohio.
This is a road trip to Fremont Ohio. A Librarian will give us an overview of the holdings and we will have time for individual research.
Saturday, July 16th "ANNUAL CEMETERY INVASION" July Summit County Meeting: Cemetery Day! Northfield Macedonia Cemetery, Macedonia, Ohio @ 10:00 am. Bring a chair and a packed lunch. See you there!

Saturday September 17th: "FUNERAL HOME RECORDS"   1:00 at the downtown Akron-Summit County Library. .
Chip Billows of Billows Funeral Home, will be the speaker. 1) Do all funeral homes keep the same kinds of records; 2) What happens to the records of a funeral home that goes out of business;
3) What kind of information might a researcher find in these records; and 4) What kind of information should be included in your obituary if you want to write your own.
Saturday, October 15th: "HOW TO HANDLE AND CARE FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS"   1:00 at the downtown Akron-Summit County Library.
Corresponding Secretary, Rick Acker will teach us how to handle and care for our photographs.

We are limited to checking only the books we have published for information about your ancestor. As a courtesy to those of you needing in-depth research we offer you the following list of chapter members who will do genealogical research for a fee. A brief explanation of their work areas is provided..
Researchers will be contacted by you and will work for you. Therefore, The Summit County Chapter, OGS will NOT be liable for work done by any researcher.
Fees will vary according to the background
and experience of the researcher. For more information concerning individual
fees and procedures please write directly to the person(s) of your choice.
You may want to write to more than one individual to see who is best suited

became members of First Settlers follows in parenthesis. Double stars **
denotes they are a current chapter member. Under each member's name is
the ancestor he/she submitted and the year and township of settlement.
Names of the First Settlers are printed in blue.
Copies of these applications and documentation can be seen at the Akron-Summit
County Public Library in the genealogy section of the Language, Literature
and History Department.
