Size: .7 Acres
Established: About 1829
History: Also known as Hale or Cranz Cemetery, this
burial ground has had a long history. The original owner of the ground on which the cemetery lies
was Erwin J. Hammond. When he sold 150 acres to William Cranz, one-quarter acre was set aside for
a cemetery. This was transferred to the Trustees of Bath Township in 1863; another strip of land
was added by deed from Othello Hale in 1879. Today, the cemetery covers .7 acres. There are 218
recorded burials in this cemetery, including eleven veterans. The first burial was in 1812 and the most
recent in 2005. The earliest of the veteran burials is that of Jason Hammond, a private in the Connecticut Militia
during the Revolutionary War.
