Grill Cemetery

a.k.a. Bergner Cemetery

Franklin Twp, Summit County, Ohio

Location:  East side of South Cleveland-Massillon Road [old Rt. 21] south of Grill Road at Franks Road.
Status:  Owned and maintained by the Franklin Township Trustees, with burials still being made.
History:  This cemetery is adjacent to St. Peter United Church of Christ and bears the name of John Grill who owned the land on which the church now stands. Records indicate this cemetery was never owned by the Church. It was a family cemetery first, then a community cemetery, then was turned over to the township.
Copied:  Gravestone inscriptions have been published in our 1980 book "Summit County Cemetery Inscriptions Vol 2"  [pages 28-34].

At this time we do not have the manpower to put the inscriptions online. The following surname index, with book page numbers, is for people buried at this cemetery for whom there was a gravestone and inscription.

We also received information from Linda MEYERS that: "It is family tradition that Samuel FLICKINGER, son of Joseph and Esther FLICKINGER, is buried in this cemetery. Samuel was born in Lancaster, PA on 9 July 1770 and died 12 Sept. 1828, Probably near Coventry. His wife Susanna HERMAN FLICKINGER, is said to be buried here as well. She was born about 1798." MS. MEYERS identifies her source as "The FLICKINGER Families in the United States of America" by Robert E. FLICKINGER, 1927.
