Catalina 22 Fleet 131

Thursday Evening Racing Results

June 18, 2009

Finish Position Captain
1 Fred Denning
2 Kyle Knotts
3 Ray Jacksits

In a hotly contested and controversial battle for first across the line, Fred Denning beat Kyle Knotts by four seconds. On the last leg on the last of three laps, Denning was taking Knotts up, away from the course. After Knotts was able to pass and tack back, Denning continued his course and rounded the committee boat to starboard and crossed the line four seconds before Knotts. Denning claimed that the rules only stated that the start/finish line had to be crossed at finish in the same direction as the start. Ray Jacksits finished third on the beautiful evening with generally 5-8 knott NW to N winds.

During the discussion afterwards over hot-dogs, the draft sailing instructions were consulted and Denning was correct. This appears to be a loop-hole in the sailing instructions that may need changed.

The prizes this week were hand-made by Ray Jacksits. They were beautiful stained-glass ornaments.
