Shrine to the Beacon that was

I got three lights and a brick from the old Beacon Journal tower in the Layoff Raffle. Plus two “Courtesy of Fran Murphey” matchbooks and a “Francis B. Murphey” bookmark, which I treasure because they remind me that Fran was more than a legend, but a fantastic person.

Paul Tople, through Charles S. Montague, got me some photos of the BJ building with the old tower.

I put this together in my den on a shelf that is my shrine to the Beacon Journal that was, the time and newspaper that still has my affection. It’s right below and above my shrine to West Virginia University, my alma mater, so you realize how important to me my 26 BJ years were.
