Programs
AIF plans programs for international leaders who visit the area under the
auspices of the United States Department of State and other federal exchange programs.
Meetings, round table and panel discussions, on site visits and job shadowing are
arranged between the visitors and their local professional counterparts to enhance exchanges of
information and establish relationships. Visitors are welcomed into the homes of volunteers who
provide dinner and/or overnight hospitality. The International Visitor Leadership Program is
consistently rated by U.S. embassies as the single most important public diplomacy program. University of Akron Student Internationals AIF arranges temporary housing in the homes of volunteers for incoming
international students until they have the opportunity to secure more permanent quarters. In
many cases this includes actively assisting in the search for permanent housing and results in
long term relationships. AIF organizes a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner where volunteers
introduce one of our most beloved holidays to international students and guests. Speakers Service AIF facilitates and coordinates international and cultural outreach
programs through local schools. International students and community members, as citizen diplomats, teach
local students about their countries and cultures. Special Events Caren Kindel International Dinner Series – throughout the year, AIF
organizes evenings of international sharing with a speaker and dinner at local ethnic
restaurants. Fee for Service Programming AIF can develop customized professional programs for international
delegations and individuals coming to northeast Ohio as guests of universities, governments or businesses.
Clients include: U.S. Department of State Office of Global Education & University of Akron College of Education secured host families for teachers-in- training from France for 3 month workshop and teaching experience. AIF planned receptions, community orientation, visits with local officials and cultural field trips.
Provost Office, University of Akron –AIF organized opening ceremonies of the Confucius Institute at the University of Akron including a VIP luncheon and a Festival of Chinese Culture.
Open World Leadership Center –AIF organized homestay and week long professional and cultural appointments for delegations from Russia and Ukraine.
