Computer Maintenance Tips

Santa may have brought you a new computer or peripheral for Christmas, but he didn't tell you how to take care of it. Now is a good time to get some good computer maintenance habits developed before you get yourself into trouble.

Ten tips to keep your computer running smoothly:

At this site we will over look ten important items that we all should already know, but lets start at the beginnings.  This is about the data and the hard ware sides of your computer.

Next we will visit

The Weekly Fab Five: Weekly Computer Maintenance

A few years ago, Steve King, Johnnie Putman, and the rest of the gang at WGN Radio's Website Wednesday night came up with what we call the "weekly fab five," the five things you should do every week to keep your computer running in tip-top shape

These are what I would consider the 5 basics and I will admit, I do a few of them.

Listed next are a few links to Microsoft, these links are very informative if you are not sure how to update you system.

The first link we will look at is from Microsoft,

Listed below are the basic items you will need, a small sweeper is also another tool you can use.

If you plan using sweeper be sure to use an anti-static strap to reduce the risk of static electricity.

You'll need:

•

screwdriver

•

can of compressed air (available from computer dealers or office-supply stores)

•

cotton swabs (do not use a cotton ball)

•

rubbing alcohol

•

paper towels or anti-static cloths

•

water

Always turn your computer off before you begin and unplug all the cords.

Next will visit a site that will list several different and helpful ways to do both, cleaning the dust bunnies out of your computer along with software side too.
